Three Bedrooms from a Recent Project

The images seen here are from a recently completed project. The selection of finishes, colour pallet and furniture, were chosen to create bedrooms that were peaceful retreats, a place to unwind, relax and let go. Timeless and dateless. Contemporary leegance at its best.

The textured wallpaper created the foundation of the room, all selections of textiles and furniture evolved from the choice of this paper.

The Rug Is Laid To Rest

In an earlier post, a blog about custom designed rugs was posted. There was an image showing weavers working on a large scale rug for a project in Brisbane. Here we see the rug finally laid and in place. As a design firm to see a concept you have designed on paper and to see it finally laid in the interior space, is very rewarding. The results speak for themselves.

Open Plan Kitchen

Clean lines, functional areas to work, good storage, ease of access and timeless design. This sums up this kitchen designed by T&A from a completed residential project. The finishes are light and contrasting. A contemporary kitchen, that incorporates a walk in butlers pantry, integrated appliances, all that one needs for modern family living today.

Custom Rug Design

On some projects there is a need to design and manufacture custom made rugs. Why ? Where a large scale rug is required for a project that cannot be sourced ready made, or a specific design that needs to be created for that project. There is something very satisfying as a designer watching a design sketch come to life, and seeing the final stunning rug delivered knowing it will last a generation or more.

Home Theaters

Home Theatres have become ever more popular over time, and are one of the must have items for  residential design projects these days. In many cases this dedicated room for a Home Theatre, is little if no different to any other room in the house, except for the audio visual equipment that resides there.

When T&A were asked to design an existing Home Theatre, the brief was to create a room that was perfect for home entertainment, but also one that was atmospheric, similar to what one would find on a visit to a large scale cinema.

The walls that were once neutral were painted jet black, this makes the screen the main focus within the room, as well as creating a dramatic effect.  The ceiling was papered in a wallpaper with a matt black background and an overlay of gold stars. Though it was not the intention, the clients describe the ceiling as coming to life like a night sky, when the theatre is being used, the stars shimmer in the light of the projector.

The end result is a perfect space for entertainment for the whole family that can be used at anytime of the day or night.

Make The Most of the Great Outdoors

In Australia we are blessed with all year round good weather, except for the occasional period of bleakness. It only make sense then, that our outdoor spaces should be used to their full advantage, especially in the warmer seasons.

The image below shows a home where the outdoor spaces have been designed to create areas that are multifunctional. Furniture and fabrics were chosen to be weather resistant to all conditions, this was part of the clients brief to us, it had to withstand harsh sun and moisture.

The home has a large wrap round verandas, which were just open empty space, not being utilised at all. What has now been created, is 'individual outdoor spaces', that suite the requirements of those who live here. Private intimate spaces for quiet time, open space for entertaining and spaces for conversation and interacting with family and friends.

Country Style

A home in the country, set on very large acreage at the foot of the mountains, surrounded by trees and extensive gardens, is very much a family home. Designed to be comfortably elegant, for the young family who lives there. Timeless in design, keeping the rooms airy and light, was the brief for this project. The result is home which is finished in every detail and reflects the personalities of those who live here.

The New Classics

'Inspired by the classics', 'influenced by the 'now', 'created for todays lifestyle', 'grounded by the past, to create substance in contemporary design'.

All of the above can be used to describe the design term - 'The New Classics'.

Highly decorative, yet restrained, by not using too much of any one design element. An eclectic mix of styles and finishes to produce an interior that is dateless , yet perfect for the modern lifestyle we live today.

From a completed project, the image here shows the entrance of a large inner city apartment. The brief here was to create something that perfectly fits the description of The New Classics, and is a fine example of possibilities that can be created.

Open Plan Living in the Sub-Tropics

Today a family home is designed for open plan living, usually focused around the kitchen, with informal areas for dining and entertaining as part of the open scheme.

In this project, modern classical pieces of furniture have been selected, to be combined with contemporary lighting to create a comfortable home for the family who lives here.   Art is always a medium we are passionate about to finish any interior space, and in the Family Room, a large painting by Archibald wining artist Wendy Sharpe was selected.

Timber shutters were installed on the windows, which are very functional in controlling light and glare, but also create the casual feel for a home situated in the subtopics.

Total Refurbishment

The apartment shown here, had great position, with extensive views of the city and river, but the interiors were tired and very dated.  The solution was to gut the complete interior space back to the bare shell, and to create a stylish modern apartment, designed for the clients who live here.

The result is an open plan space that opens onto large outdoor terraces, where the views can be enjoyed and where the clients enjoy enetertaining in the warmer months.

Stone floors were laid throughout the main areas of the apartment and cabinet work was designed and made out of toasted solid oak. The new panelled mirrors on the rear wall help to create the feeling of openness, but also bring the view of  the city scape inside. At night the city lights that are reflected in the mirrors, this creates a spectacular backdrop in the Dining area.

The new furniture and soft furnishings were selected in a neutral pallet that is warm and inviting, and the furniture, is a classic, contemporary mix of styles.

To see the finished apartment now, you realise what an amazing transformation has taken place,  its one of those projects you had wished you'd taken a before photo of the old interior.  To show the extent of what has taken place, and the stylish interior that has now been created.
